Working on new ultrasonic lidar

Sept. 17, 2024

This looks more like turret, and de facto it is. The built-in servo can move the top part in range 0-180 degrees.

But instead of gun, it holds a standard, cheap ultrasonic ranger. It is intended to be a simple variant to so called lidar - a stuff that maps a distances of nearby objects.

The reason for this is to create an automated moving robot on cheap. It should create a map of it’s surroundings and navigate safely within it.

For sure it is gonna be way slower than real lidar. Good lidar gives you about hundreds, if not more, datapoints per second, in 360 degrees range. This thing is expected to deliver up to 10 dpts/sec.

But good software should be able to handle this situation. Stay tuned for updates.
